When you are make a presentation ensure you know your subject either through your own personal experience or through research. Personal experience is preferable to learnt knowledge because it is easier to speak with conviction.
If you have not mastered your subject you can not hope to master your audience. They will quickly find you out if you only have superficial knowledge of your subject and will quickly lose interest.
It is a lack of knowledge of the subject matter more than just about anything else that will destroy a presentation.
When you are interested in your subject and have a thorough knowledge of the subject it is probable you can make an effective presentation without knowing all the ins and outs of presenting.
